A comprehensive guide to personal debt
by Stacey Glebes - Molchan & Associates, Inc.

Samuel Blankson’s How to Destroy Your Debt is a comprehensive guide to personal debt, what causes it and how to get out of it for good.  In the tradition of a battle plan for war, Blankson offers valuable tools for identifying where the most critical debts in your life are located, how they came to be, and how to destroy them using low interest introductory rate credit cards, savings, and grants.  This guide offers tips for mortgage repayment and the secret to paying off a mortgage in a fraction of the time expected.  Blankson expertly injects refreshing bits of humour into his personal experiences with debt to take some of the sting out this often-terrifying subject matter.  He offers different options for approach based on an individual’s current situation; for example if ones income is temporarily coming in at a lower level then usual.  The guide offers both quick fixes, and more long-term methods for taking care of current debts and avoiding debt in the future.

How to Destroy Your Debt offers solutions to the problem of debt from every angle, and an entire section of the book is dedicated to helping the reader increase their income. Blankson explains how this can be accomplished through changing jobs or positions, earning paid overtime and using freelance or consulting work.  He also describes the process of obtaining low rate loans and getting the most out of your loan in the fight against debt.  The guide is filled with clear examples and charts that help to illustrate the different points of the book, and allows for a total understanding of the material by the reader.

The guide offers directions for navigating the intimidating and difficult process of bankruptcy, downgrading expenses including homes and cars, and the ways that these methods can be utilized to regain financial stability.  It also offers tips that can be used on a daily basis, including tips for household shopping and setting a budget, packing a lunch rather than buying out and making repairs to clothing.  The guide illustrates how numerous small expenses add up to one big debt.

As with all of Blankson’s books, his primary focus is on empowering the reader to take control of their lives and make changes to the areas where they feel they can do better.  He utilizes positive self-talk, visualization and a positive mental attitude as an individual’s secret weapon in destroying their debt forever.  He describes how these tactics, used correctly worked for him and how they can work for you as well.

I was pleased to find that the guide also offers a staggering 36 pages of resources for government benefits, services and grants that can offer financial aid in countless areas from helping with rent, to maternity leave benefits to a Christmas bonus.

This book is a weapon that should be in every independent adult’s arsenal to fight the good fight against the monster of debt.

Solid!!

by kwame Owusu

This is a solid book. From cover to cover it is full with money saving ideas. Clear your debts have not been easier. The writer has a sense of humour about this serious subject which he makes it easier to digest advice. There are techniques for shopping effectively and moneysaving. He has hit the jackpot here. I am now in process of getting a mortgage, I am so glad I have read this mortgage section before I go any further. Now the future looks bright. I have already make plans to clear the mortgage within 7 years just as the book teaches. Save money read this book.

Prep for financial future series

by Bullish Fran

I first came across the now obsolete "The Common Sense Battle Plan to Conquering Debt and Enjoying Financial Freedom", which has been replaced by this "How to Destroy Your Debts". This new edition to that book is astonishing well written and presented for a book covering this topic. Although rammed to the hilt with practical advice and money saving techniques, it has managed to be clear and concise. The text flows in a logical manner making it easy to find a section easily the second time around. I particularly liked the "Shopping Aisle Kung Fu", strategic techniques on avoiding being ripped off or overspending whilst shopping. This book has everything. How to manage your car, buy a car, sell a car, share a car etc. It covers how to make money from your house, land or other possessions. It even covers how to get the kids to contribute to helping clear the debt. If you have financial problems and are not reading this book, you are crazy.
